White Fillings
At Alexanders Dental Practice, we can use white fillings instead of amalgam fillings to create a more subtle, aesthetically pleasing finish for your smile.
What are white fillings?
White fillings are designed to fulfil the same function as traditional amalgam fillings and are used to help repair a tooth that has a cavity or hole as a result of decay, injury or wears and tear.
What are they made of?
White fillings are made of either a strong and durable material called composite resin or dental porcelain which is even more durable. Both materials are tooth-coloured and can be matched to your natural tooth.
Why choose white fillings?
We’ll always start your journey towards a healthier, happier smile with a consultation. During this time, we’ll ascertain whether you’re a suitable candidate for white fillings or not. Although white fillings can perform the same function as amalgam fillings, there are still some cases and situations where amalgam is the right option. White fillings do present a more aesthetically pleasing choice, however, and can help improve and enhance a smile. They’re also attached by bonding them to the natural tooth, which can help protect it from further damage. Another benefit of white fillings is that they don’t contain any mercury.
Can I replace my amalgam fillings with a white (composite) filling?
As mentioned above, there are still some cases where an amalgam filling is the most suitable option. At a consultation with us, we’ll be able to determine whether replacing your current amalgam filling with a white filling is the right course of action. In a lot of situations, it is entirely possible to do so, and we’re happy to help improve our patients’ smiles in this way when we can.
