Fillings
At Alexanders Dental Practice, our welcoming and highly skilled team are able to help restore damaged teeth with fillings.
What is a filling?
As one of the most commonly performed dental restoration treatments, you’ve probably already heard of a filling. Designed to fill a hole – otherwise referred to as caries or a cavity – in a tooth, they can help restore a tooth to full function.
Why might I need a filling?
We usually use fillings to help repair a tooth or teeth that have become damaged as a result of decay. They can also be used in the event of injury or trauma, or in some cases simple wear and tear.
What are fillings made of?
Fillings can be made of a variety of materials. Traditionally, a metal amalgam material that is silvery-looking in appearance has been most commonly used. While this material is still widely used, many patients – and dentists – opt for other more bio-compatible materials such as composite fillings. These are made of powdered glass and BPA-free acrylic resin and can fit in practically seamlessly with the rest of the mouth, meaning you don’t have to worry about anyone noticing your new filling.
We offer both options here at Manor Lodge Dental Practice and are always happy to talk through your options with you.
What happens during the treatment?
We’ll first remove any decayed parts of the tooth, before thoroughly cleaning it in order to prepare it for the filling material. We’ll then apply the chosen filling material and set it in place. Most appointments for receiving a filling last as little as an hour, meaning you can quickly and easily return to your day with a newly restored tooth.
